A cross-section draws every profile of the unit side by side across the wall: frame, sash, beads, screen,
glass. Assembly pairs say where each profile sits across the wall on the profile that holds it – the
sash on its frame, a bead on its sash (or on the frame of a fixed lite), a screen on the frame. Each pair is set
once and every design that uses it draws from it. Up and down (along the opening) still comes from the
clearance rules.

Where the positions come from

  • Measured – when you read a supplier section detail with Bulk CAD import, the AI says
which piece is the frame, the sash, the bead, the glass … and what each sits on. OpenJanela then measures the
position from the drawing itself (the AI never gives distances) and proposes the pair. The glass of the detail
    gives the sash’s glass pocket.
  • Copied – Fill missing gives a sash the position it has in a sister frame whose seat is the same
    shape.
  • Fitted – otherwise Fill missing slides the profile until it touches the other one. Always
    check a fitted pair.
  • Manual – set by you in the editor.

Only confirmed pairs are used. Until a frame and its sash are both confirmed profile sections with a
confirmed pair, the cross-sections draw exactly as before (pictures and their offsets).

The editor: OJ Setup → Parts → Assembly pairs

  • The list shows every pair, its X (mm and 64ths), where it came from and whether it is confirmed;
Needs X lists the sash / frame combinations of a series that have no pair yet. + Pair adds any two
sections (for example a bead on a frame).
  • The holding profile is drawn in grey at its origin (red dot, exterior on the left); the profile in blue.
Drag the blue profile left / right – it snaps to faces (hold Shift to place freely). Wheel to zoom, drag
the background to pan, the arrow keys nudge by 1/64″ or 0.1 mm, or type the X in mm or 64ths.
  • Fit to seat slides the profile until it touches; Copy from… takes the X of the same profile
on another host; Preview shows the pair as a sill, head or jamb.
  • Host role / Profile role say what each section is (frame, sash, bead, setting block …); the
roles decide which pairs Fill missing proposes.
  • Save keeps a proposal; Confirm (or Confirm all shown) makes it used by the
cross-sections. Web designs pick a change up at once; desktop users after restarting OpenJanela.

Glass and setting blocks

When the sash (or the frame of a fixed lite) has a glass pocket, the cross-section draws the glass lites from
it over the glass’s real height, with the thicknesses of the glass type. A setting block paired with the sash is
drawn under the glass in vertical sections.
