The Net:List ratio expresses how far an order’s actual selling price sits below the
undiscounted catalog (“list”) price. It is a factor between 0 and 1:

  • List price — the sum of every line’s undiscounted price, plus list shipping and installation. This is the “before discount” total. It is computed on the fly and is not stored on the order.
  • Net price — the after-discount subtotal actually charged (products total − discount). This is stored on the order.
  • Net:List ratio — net price ÷ list price (only when list price is greater than 0).
Net:List ratio = Net price  ÷  List price          (list price > 0)
1.00 = sold at full list (no discount)
0.80  = sold at 80% of list (a 20% discount)
lower = deeper discount

Because a heavier discount produces a lower ratio, a commission matrix keyed on the
ratio lets you pay a fuller commission on full-margin orders and a reduced commission on
heavily discounted ones.

Two “Net:List” values — don’t confuse them
The sales-rep setup form also has Net:List and Net:List Absolute fields that are
recorded against the rep. The ratio that actually selects a commission rate, however, is
recomputed for each order from that order’s own net and list totals — it is not read
back from the rep record. Treat the rep-form figures as reference/target values entered per
rep, and the per-order computed ratio as what drives the calculation.
