Every order item carries a design type, chosen on the item selector
(the radio buttons Custom Design, Std Design, Std Size, Editable Std
Product
, Std Product). The type is saved with the item and is applied again every time
the item is reopened. It decides which tools the item designer offers; the geometry engine itself
never refuses a change because of it.

What each type allows

Type Mullion / Shapes / Sash / Edit Profiles Options, Glass, Grids Align & equalize Width / height fields Option answers
1 — Custom Design on on on editable editable
2 — Std Size off on off locked (size comes from the standard-size list) editable
3 — Std Product off off off locked disabled
4 — Editable Std Product off on off locked disabled, except options flagged change in std
5 — Std Design off on unchanged locked editable, except options flagged lock in std design

Two conditions override the table for every type: an item opened for viewing only leaves just
the Options tool on, and editing a document of type 4 in status 40 turns off Mullion, Shapes,
Sash and Edit Profiles. Service and back-order line items turn every tool off regardless of type.

How the selector assigns the type

  • Clicking a design tile sets Custom Design (1). If that design has standard sizes, the
selector then switches the radio to Std Size (2) on its own, and the size you pick in the
list at the bottom keeps it there — so Select opens the item as type 2 with the design
tools off. Once a size is picked, the design tiles ignore single and double clicks: the item is
fixed to that design and size. A right click on any tile cancels the whole selection
(design, size and item type, size back to the nominal value) so you start again; changing the
item type away from Std Size also releases the tiles.
  • Double-clicking a tile fires Next before that switch happens, so the item opens as
type 1 with everything enabled. This is why the same design behaves differently between a
single click plus a size and a double-click.
  • Std Design (5) keeps the size fields on in the selector (you type the size); Std Size,
Editable Std Product and Std Product take the size from the standard-size list. Choosing any of
the last three with no design selected falls back to Custom Design.
  • The web configurator’s selector sends Custom (1), Std Design (5) when a design is clicked and
Std Size (2) when a size is picked; its Std Product radios are shown but not wired. The web
designer does not disable tools by type.

Related behaviour

  • Applying a standard size from inside the designer (Std Set) switches the item to
type 2; changing the overall size switches it back to type 1.
  • The price on a standard-size row is displayed in the size lists and edited in the
predefined-design dialog, but it is not applied to the item: a type 2 item is priced by the
rules exactly like a custom item. Today the lock is the only thing Std Size adds.
  • A standard size flagged std size glass locks the width/height fields on its own, whatever
    the type.
For developers
The gates live in ItemFrame.enableByItemType (tools), TopPanel (size
fields, four places) and OptionSelectorPanel (option answers, 3–5). The selector logic
is OrderDesignSelectionControllerFX (tile click sets 1, initDesignStdSize
flips to 2 when standard sizes exist; the double-click fires Next first). REST:
/changedesignstandardsize forces type 2, /changedesignoverallsize forces 1.
