A flash discount is a temporary percent off item prices for chosen series and
customer groups, with a reference text and an end date. Set it in Administration and Setup
→ Company Preferences
, on the Flash Discount tab (titled Company Flash Sale
Discount). To create, delete or save rows you need the user right Create/Edit Flash Sale
Discount
.

What, where, who, when, why

What Dated, percent-off sale rows: each row picks series + customer
groups, a reference text, a discount % and a From/To window, and stamps itself onto matching items
while it runs.
Where Administration and Setup → Company Preferences → Flash
Discount
tab.
Who Whoever runs promotions (with the right above). The order-entry user
just sees the item come up flagged with the Reference and the due date.
When A seasonal sale on chosen series; a supplier promotion you must pass
through to your customer; end-of-quarter pushes. Untick Active when it ends.
Why it matters It changes item discounts during pricing without
touching part prices, customer discounts or line-discount rows — and it expires by itself on
the To Date. But an expired row left Active can shadow a valid one (see the warning below).

Columns

Column What it does
Series Tick one or more series. Required in practice: a row with no
series never applies.
Partner Group Tick customer groups. Empty = every group.
Part Type Leave empty. In the current version a ticked part type is compared
with the customer’s group instead of a part type, so the row normally stops applying.
Part Family, Min, Max, Min Qty Stored; no effect found
in pricing in the current version. Min cannot be above Max.
Reference Required. It is shown as the flash discount description on the item.
Discount % Percent, above 0 and at most 99.
From Date / To Date The discount applies from the From Date until the
day before the To Date. The To Date is kept on the item as the flash discount due date.
Active Only active rows are loaded. New rows start inactive.

Press Edit, then + to add a row (it appears at the top), then Save. The
trash button asks for confirmation and deletes the row at once, without waiting for Save.

How it is applied

  • Only while pricing quotes, unconfirmed orders and confirmed orders.
  • Your own customers: the first active row, newest first, whose Series list contains the
item’s series and whose Partner Group list is empty or contains the customer’s group is chosen.
If today is inside its dates, the item’s discount becomes the flash percent and the net price is
reduced by it. The item is flagged as flash discounted, with the Reference and To Date.
  • Supplier’s flash discount: when you price a supplier’s series, the supplier’s own active
flash rows are checked against that series and your group at the supplier. The flash percent is
taken off your cost of the supplier’s product. The same amount is then taken off the net
price of your item, so you pass the saving on to your customer.
An expired row can hide a valid one
The row is chosen first and the dates are checked afterwards. If an expired row is still Active and
matches first, no flash discount is given even when a later row is valid. Untick Active on
rows that have ended.

Worked example — spring sale, 10% off two series for one group

Column Value Why
Series Vinyl 700 + Vinyl 900 ticked Unticked series are unaffected; a row
with no series never applies at all.
Partner Group “Dealers” ticked Only customers in that group;
leave empty to cover every group.
Reference / Discount % “Spring Promo” / 10 The reference shows
on the item as the flash description; 10 = 10% (max 99).
From / To / Active Mar 1 / Apr 1 / ticked after creating Applies Mar 1 to
Mar 31 (the day before To); Apr 1 is kept on the item as the promo due date. New rows start
inactive — remember to tick Active.
Effect A $600 Vinyl 700 item for a Dealers customer prices at $540, flagged
“Spring Promo” due Apr 1
Applied during pricing of quotes and orders while the
window is open.

Flash discounts are separate from customer and group line discounts.
