How Can We Help?
SUH (Sealed-Unit Height) on the grids table is a setup-time
distance that pushes the topmost horizontal grid line down from the top edge of the glass, so
the grid pattern starts below the sealed unit’s top line instead of running all the way to
the glass edge. It is a property of a grid template, not of an individual order.
What it is
When a grid template’s SUH is greater than zero, the item designer forces a
horizontal grid bar a fixed setback distance down from the top of each daylight opening (DLO),
and it shortens the vertical grid bars in that top zone so they terminate at that line
rather than continuing to the glass edge. The result is a clean top “header” band above the
divided-lite pattern — commonly used where the glass detail, spacer, or a transom head needs the
grid to begin lower than the visible top of the glass.
If SUH is left at its default of 0, the feature is off and grids lay out
normally to the top of the DLO. SUH is therefore opt-in per grid template — existing
templates behave exactly as before until a non-zero value is entered.
The grids-table SUH described here is a setup constant that seeds the top setback
line in the designer. It is not the same as the per-item Sealed-Unit-Height that is
computed for each glass unit and sent to glass suppliers on the EDI/glass order (that one is
derived automatically from the cut grid positions). They are stored separately and serve
different purposes; setting one does not change the other.
Where it lives & how to set it
SUH is a single field on each grid template row in product setup (the suh
column of the grids table). It is maintained together with the other grid-template
attributes — grid thickness, grid family, continuity, and the like — in the product-setup / grid
template maintenance screen. To use it:
- Open the grid template you want the setback to apply to.
- Enter the SUH as a distance measured down from the top edge of the glass, expressed
in the series’ unit of measure. Use0to turn the setback off. - Save the template. Any item that selects this grid template will then lay its grids out
with the setback applied.
Unlike the per-item glass value, the grids-table SUH stores a single number — there is no
separate metric and imperial copy. It is held in the series’ unit of measure and converted
on use: divided by 64 when the series is imperial (the value is 64ths of an inch) or by
100 when the series is metric (hundredths of a millimetre). Enter the value in the UOM of
the series the template belongs to.
How it behaves in the designer
| Condition | Result |
|---|---|
| SUH = 0 | No setback. Grids run to the top of the DLO as usual. |
| SUH > 0 | A horizontal grid line is anchored at the setback distance below the DLO top, and vertical bars whose span falls within that top zone are trimmed to end at that line (they butt the sealed-unit top rather than reaching the glass edge). |
| Setback outside the valid zone | If the computed line would fall inside the grid-removal zone at the very top or bottom of the opening, it is ignored (treated as no anchor) so an out-of-range value cannot corrupt the layout. |
Because SUH lives on the grid template, it is the right place to standardise a setback across many
orders — every unit that picks the template inherits the same top band. For a one-off setback on a
single item, adjust that item’s grid positions directly in the designer instead of editing the
shared template.
