Weep slots, drain holes and breather holes are shape ops (Rule Type 143 Add Op Hardware
Etc.
) on the frame’s bottom bar (sill) or top bar (head). For a row of slots use the repeat rules:
Repeat Start (first slot from the start end), Repeat End (last slot back from the far end) and
Step (spacing between). General rules: How machining rules work.

Example D1: weep slots every 16″ along the sill (series 8500)

Series 155 “8500 Frame”, rules 304–313, called from series 154 “8500” rule 337 (level
Frame). Level Frame, Position Bottom, with the test option “WEEP HOLES” =
Required on every rule.

Rule Type Value Meaning
143 Add Op Hardware Etc. Description: WEEP HOLES start the op
158 Set Op on Level=? Value 1 = 1 the frame
144 Set Op Pattern No. Description = WEEP the weep-slot program
153 Set Op if Side? Value 1 = 2 bottom bar (sill)
154 Set Op If Part Ref1 Description = 8500F 8500 frame profiles only
171 Set Op Repeat Start Description = 8 first slot 8″ from the start
172 Set Op Repeat End Description = 8 last slot 8″ from the far end
173 Set Op Step Size Description = 16 one every 16″ between
148 Set Op posX Description = 0 no extra shift

In plain English: To cut weep slots along the sill, the rule runs pattern WEEP on the frame’s
bottom bar (8500F profiles only), the first slot 8″ from the start, the last 8″ from the far end and
one every 16″ between, when the order’s WEEP HOLES option is Required. On a 48″ sill that gives
slots at 8″, 24″ and 40″.

Example D2: two drain holes near the sill ends

Same series, rules 367–382: two blocks on the frame bottom (8500F), pattern
8DM_BDH2, one with Set Op posX = 4.25 and one with L-4.25, no test.

In plain English: To drill a drain hole near each end of the sill, the rule runs 8DM_BDH2 on the
frame’s bottom bar, 4.25″ from the start and 4.25″ from the far end, on every 8500 frame.

Example D3: breather holes in the head for dark colours

Same series, rules 418–428: Position Top; level 1; side 1; Reference
8500F; pattern 8DM_BDH2; Repeat Start 4.25, Repeat End 4.25, Step
0; posX 0. Test: option “COLOUR OUT” is Black, Charcoal, Kendal Charcoal, Brown
or Custom.

In plain English: To vent the head on dark-coloured frames, the rule runs 8DM_BDH2 on the
frame’s top bar, 4.25″ from each end (Step 0 = only the two end holes), when the exterior colour is one of
the dark answers.

Example D4: sash drain holes

Series 310 “3800.SASH.DRAIN”, rules 410–426: level Sash Leaf, Set Op on Level=?
2, side 2 (bottom rail), Reference 3800S, pattern 2D_DH_L at
L-5 and 2D_DH_R at 5. In plain English: to drain a 3800 sash, the rule drills
the sash’s bottom rail 5″ in from each end, with a left-hand and a right-hand program.

Tips

  • Slots that must stay a set distance from the ends: use fixed X (8, L-8); evenly spread:
use Repeat Start / End / Step; one in the middle: L/2.
  • Make drainage optional with a test on a “weep holes” option, or tie it to colour or size with the
matching test. Put the same test on every rule of the block.
  • Distances are inches on an imperial series and mm on a metric one.
Not confirmedWhich end of the sill is the “start” (the
code counts a bottom bar from the left end) was not checked against a printed cut list; for symmetric layouts like
these it makes no difference.
