How Can We Help?
Reports are created and edited on the Report Management screen (Administration). The
screen is a searchable list of reports on the left and, on the right, a set of tabs for the
selected report.
What, where, who, when, why
| What | The registry of printable documents: for each report, its JasperReports template ( .jasper), friendly name, default printer/tray/format,save directory, copy count, classification flags, and the panels + user rights that expose it. |
| Where | Report Management (Administration). Four tabs: Report details, Reports by Panel, Report Rights, Report Parameters. |
| Who | Administrators / report maintainers. Users only ever see the reports this screen exposes to them. |
| When | When a new Jasper layout is deployed; when a document must appear in (or disappear from) a print dialog; when a default printer or save folder changes. |
| Why it matters | A layout file nobody registers here is unreachable: the print dialogs list only reports attached to their panel, and stations print only what line-station assignment gives them. |
Report details
The first tab holds the core settings of a report:
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Name | The report template file name (the JasperReports .jasper design). This is what ties the row to an actual printable layout. |
| Name preview | An alternate template used for on-screen preview, when it differs from the print template. |
| Description | The friendly name shown to users in lists and print dialogs. |
| Printer / Tray | A default target printer and paper tray for the report. |
| File type | The default output format (e.g. PDF). |
| Save directory / Alternate directory | Where an output file is written when the report is sent to file rather than a printer. |
| Default | When set, the report is pre-ticked in any print dialog it appears in — the everyday document runs without the user hunting for it. |
| Production, Parts, Grids | Classify the report so the system knows it is a production/shop document, a parts document, or a grid document. |
| File, Unique | File = the report is generated to a file; Unique = one instance only. |
| Copies | Default number of copies to print. |
Use New to add a report, Edit to change the selected one, then Save
(or Cancel to discard). Delete removes the selected report.
The other tabs
- Reports by Panel — where the report should appear as a print option (see the next topic).
- Report Rights — which users are allowed to run the report.
- Report Parameters — runtime prompts/parameters the report asks for before it runs.
Worked example — registering a new work order
| Step | Where | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Details | Name = _workOrder.jasper, Description =“Work Order”, File type = PDF, Copies = 1, Production ticked |
Name ties the row to the deployed template; Production marks it a shop document. |
| 2 | Reports by Panel | Assign to Confirm Order; Save | Without a panel, the report appears in no print dialog at all. |
| 3 | Details again | Default ticked | Pre-ticked in the Confirm Order dialog — the shop’s everyday document is one click. |
| 4 | Report Rights | Production users group | Only they can run it. |
