Labour is an ordinary Part rule whose part is a Labor part. The labour cost comes from
the part’s cost, times the quantity the rule gives. Put the labour rule under the set station rule of the
station that does the work, so the time shows up there.

Painting labour (SD FRAME LABOR, series 361)

To charge painting on painted frames, the rule adds labour part Labour-4 Paint Mainframe on all sides of the
frame, at All Frame, when the colour is not White. It lands on the Painting Station set by rule 196 just above.

W and H are inches on this imperial series, so the wrapping labour grows with the frame size.

Painting the sash beads (3501 Sash GB, series 344)

To charge painting of painted sash beads at the paint shop, rule 99 sets the Painting Station and rule 100
adds labour part Painting8 Paint Glazing Bead on the beads, at All Glazing Beads, when the inside colour is not
White.

In the same sub-routine, rule 115 adds labour part Glaze14 (Heel Bead Additional time) when Glazing Type is
Heel Bead, with Quantity Expression (imperial) (((W+H)/6))*(12+8). Other labour examples: 3500 PW GB
(465) rules 86–89 (glazing labour by colour and series, quantities 517, 617, 1017, 1117), 3501 rule 1231 Key
Alike Labor.

Steps

  1. Create the labour item in OJ Setup → Parts as a Labor part type, with its cost per unit.
  2. Open the series or labour sub-routine → Rules. Select the set station rule of the station that
does the work (or the last part under it) and click Insert, so the labour lands on that station.
  3. Level: the piece the work is done on (frame, sash, beads). Rule Type Part, Value 1 the
    labour part.
  4. Quantity Type Value for a fixed amount, or Expression when it grows with size (W and H in
    inches on an imperial series).
  5. Tests for when the work is needed (colour not White, heel bead, key lock…) → Save.
  6. Build an item and check the labour line, its cost and its station in the BOM.
Unit of labour quantity not confirmedLabour quantities
such as 80, 180 or 517 with a part cost around 0.01 per unit suggest the quantity is a small time unit (seconds or
similar), but this has not been confirmed. Use the same unit as your existing labour parts and check the cost on a
test item.
Only the Quantity Type field counts361 rule 205 “Weld Main
Frame” uses Quantity Type Value 80; its leftover imperial expression “67+5” is ignored.
