How Can We Help?
A job type tells the system what kind of work an order is — supply
only, supply and install, a service call — and carries the defaults that come with it.
Manage them in OJ Setup → Product Setup → Job Types. The list on the left shows
each job type’s Seq and Description; the selected one is shown on the right.
Working with the screen
- Click New to add a job type, or select one and click Edit.
- Fill in the fields below and click Save; Cancel drops your changes.
- To remove a job type, select it and click Delete. A job type that any order,
order in progress, order history row, customer default or service type still uses
cannot be deleted — the message tells you how many of each still point at it.
Move those to another job type first.
| Section | Field | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| General | ID | Assigned by the system when you save a new job type; read only. |
| Seq | Display order: lists that sort job types by sequence, including this screen, use it. |
|
| Reference | Short code for the job type. | |
| Description | The name users see. Required. | |
| Cost increase % | Percentage stored with the job type. No current pricing step reads it. |
|
| Installation & tax | Requires installation | Orders of this type are flagged for installation scheduling, and their installation start and end dates are calculated (and updated on confirmed orders). See the warranty note below. |
| Requires measure | Orders of this type are flagged for measure scheduling. |
|
| Tax installation | Installation charges on these orders are taxable. |
|
| Tax shipping | Shipping charges on these orders are taxable. | |
| Warranty & service | Default warranty | The warranty an order of this type gets by default. None means no default. |
| Service job | Marks the job type as a service job. | |
| Chargeable service | The one service job type that means “the customer pays for this call”. Only one job type can carry it. If two already do (set before this screen existed), saving either is refused until you clear the flag on one. |
|
| Warranty service | The one service job type that means “covered, no charge”. Only one job type can carry it; the same applies if two already do. |
|
| Order handling | Back order | The job type is offered where a back-order job type is picked. |
| Manual status | The job type is offered in the manual-status job type lists. |
|
| Ship complete | Orders of this type are shown as ship-complete on the shipping screens. |
|
| PO when ordered | Stored with the job type. No current screen acts on it. |
|
| Include marked-up price | Item cost and price calculation includes marked-up cost prices for orders of this type. |
Default warranty
On a new or unconfirmed order the Order Header picks the job type’s default warranty
(see Choosing the warranty on an order). When the order is
confirmed and still has no warranty, the job type’s default warranty is applied at
that point. A warranty already chosen on the order is never replaced at confirmation. The combo
lists only active warranties; if a job type still points at a warranty that is no longer
active, it is shown as #<id> (inactive) and kept when you save.
The warranty start date stamped on a confirmed order is its latest delivery date, whatever the
job type (see When the warranty clock starts). The install flag
still matters for a confirmed order that has no stored start date yet: for a job type
without installation the service warranty check counts from the latest delivery date;
for a job type with installation it reports “cannot determine”. Unticking
Requires installation on an existing job type therefore shows a warning, because those
orders also stop being flagged for installation and their installation dates are no longer
calculated.
