A production line is the path a unit is built on. Each line is set up under
Administration and Setup → OJ Setup → PRODUCTION → Production Line: the list of lines is on
the left; pick one and press Edit (or New) to change the form on the right, then Save. Only
Description is required. For the vocabulary (lines, stations, parent lines) see
Stations & production lines.

What, where, who, when, why

What One form per production line: identity, how batching loads its carts
(Cart Size, slots, levelling), which shifts it works, how it routes (parent, feeder, sequence),
glass behaviour and shipping flags.
Where Administration and Setup → OJ Setup → PRODUCTION →
Production Line
. The stations themselves live on the
Production Stations screen, and the order you visit them
in on Line-Station Routing.
Who Whoever sets up production. The shop floor only meets this line as a
name in pickers, batch carts and station views.
When Before the first batch on the line; when cart sizes, shifts or
sorting change; when a glass or feeder line is added; when a line is retired (Active).
Why it matters Batching, cart/slot numbering and glass pairing all read
these fields, and the forward scheduler books capacity per line using its shifts and parent
links. A wrong Cart Size or an unticked shift shows up as mis-loaded carts or orders that never
find a date.
Active hides the lineThis screen lists active lines
only. If you untick Active and save, the line disappears from this screen (and from every line
picker) and cannot be switched back on here — ask your OpenJanela administrator. Delete removes the
line permanently.

Identity

Field What it does
ID Given by the system when you save a new line.
Description The line’s name in every line picker, batch and report.
Code Stored; no effect found in the current version.
Active Inactive lines are left out of every line list (see the warning above).

Cart & Slots — how batching loads carts

When a batch is created, the units of each line are sorted (see Sort By), split into carts and given
a cart number and slot number. Each cart becomes one part of the batch.

Field What it does
Cart Size How many units one cart holds. Number of carts = units ÷ Cart Size, rounded
up. Always set it above 0 on a line that receives units.
Level (in the Shifts group) Balances the carts. Off: carts are filled to Cart Size
(25 units, size 12 → 12, 12, 1). On: the units are spread evenly over the same number of carts
(→ 9, 9, 7).
Min Slot # 0 = slots are numbered 1, 2, 3… in every cart. Above 0 = slots are
numbered on from Min Slot # + 1 and keep counting across all of this line’s carts in the batch.
Max Slot # Stored, but no upper limit is applied in the current version.
Assign Own Cart Slot On by default; leave it on for normal lines. On a non-glass line with it
off, the cart and slot numbers are worked out but not saved to the units. For glass lines see Glass
below.
Building #, Warehouse, Ship Building Stored; no effect found in the current version.

Shifts — scheduling capacity

Shift 1, Shift 2, Shift 3 say which shifts this line works. When an order is
scheduled, each working day is tried shift by shift (1, then 2, then 3) for room at the line’s bottleneck
stations. A shift only counts on dates covered by one of its windows on the
Shift screen, which also gives its capacity %.

Tick a shift and give it a windowScheduling keeps looking
day by day until it finds room. A line with no ticked shift, or with ticked shifts that have no Shift
window covering the dates, never finds room.

Routing

Field What it does
Sequence When an order uses several lines, scheduling handles the lines in this order.
Feeder A feeder line makes parts for another line. Its units are scheduled to finish
LT to Next Line working days earlier than the order’s production finish date. The Create Batch
screen lists feeder lines together with virtual sub-lines and glass lines, apart from the main lines.
LT to Next Line Working days a feeder line finishes ahead (see Feeder). On a sub-line, the
parent line’s Feeder and LT to Next Line are used instead of its own.
Transfer LT Stored; no effect found in the current version.
Parent Line Makes this line a sub-line of another (a line cannot be its own parent). The
sub-line inherits the reports assigned to the parent’s stations, scheduling books its capacity together
with the parent, and its Feeder/LT to Next Line come from the parent. None = a main line.
Has Sub-Lines Changes how batching makes carts: instead of one set of carts for the line, the
units are grouped by the station they go to, and each station’s own Cart Size, Batch Sequence, Min Slot #
and Buffer are used (see Production Stations). Carts are always
balanced on this path.

Glass

Field What it does
Is Glass Line Marks a glass / sealed-unit line. In batching, glass units on a glass line with
Assign Own Cart Slot off take the same cart and slot as the unit they belong to; with it on they
get their own carts and are only paired to their unit (same box number). Glass lines are left out of the
Production Control Board’s line selector.
Glass Cart Size Used by the glass machine pattern lists: a new glass cart starts when the slot
count passes the largest Glass Cart Size among the batch’s lines.
Force Glass PL / Glass PL When Force Glass PL is on and a Glass PL is picked, glass whose
unit is built on this line is moved to the Glass PL line when the item’s bill of materials is built.

Flags

Field What it does
Virtual Not a physical line. Virtual lines with a parent are listed with the sub-lines on
the Create Batch screen; the Production Control Board shows them combined into their parent.
Generate Shipping A number, not a tick box. 0 = off. 1 = when the order is scheduled, this
line’s units are recorded as inspected and waiting in the ship warehouse, and their stock is issued as
shipped (when the series also has 1). 2 = when the batch is released, shipping records are created for
this line’s units (a series set to 2 instead marks the whole item ready to ship). See
Direct-to-shipping orders.
Min Days to Manufacture Minimum production days; see
Stations & production lines.
Sort By Unit order before carts are filled: 0 = order, item, unit number; 1 = width
(narrowest first), then order and item. Other values leave the units unsorted.

Targets

Daily Target (units) and Remake Target (%) drive the target line and the Remakes KPI of the
Production Control Board. 0 = no target.

Worked example — a vinyl weld line with a glass feeder

Field Value Why
Description / Active “Weld Line 1” / on Name shown in batch and
PCB pickers; unticking Active hides the line everywhere.
Cart Size / Level 12 / on A 25-unit batch spreads over 3 carts as 9, 9, 7
instead of 12, 12, 1 — even workload per cart.
Sort By 1 Welding narrowest-first: units are sorted by width before carts
are filled.
Shift 1 / Shift 2 ticked / ticked Two-shift line. Both shifts also need
windows on the Shift screen, or scheduling finds no
capacity.
Glass line “SU Line” Feeder off, Is Glass Line on, Glass Cart
Size 20, Assign Own Cart Slot off
Sealed units take the same cart and slot as the window
they belong to, and the pattern lists cut a new glass cart every 20 slots.
Generate Shipping 0 Units ship through the normal shipping flow, not
direct-to-shipping.
