When the profile or part depends on an answer (white or painted, inswing or outswing), build a
matrix whose cells hold the part id, and point a Profile Matrix or Part Matrix rule at it.
One rule then covers every colour. The Matrix screen itself is described in
Matrix pricing tables.
Example: main frame by colour
To put the right-colour inswing main frame on top of a 3501 frame, the rule puts the profile from matrix
9411 IN Main Frame on the frame top, at All Frame, for the listed 3501 opening styles. The matrix picks the
part from the COLOUR answer.

Steps
- Make sure every part the matrix will return exists (OJ Setup → Parts) and note its part id.
- OJ Setup → Matrix → New → Description → Type: Profile Matrix for
profiles, Part Matrix for other parts → Series. - Row axis: Options and Answers and the option (for example COLOUR). Column axis: None, or a second
option or size. - Save, generate the grid, and type the part id into each cell (not the price, not the stock code).
Save. - Rules tab → New → Level and Position as for a fixed part → Rule Type
Profile Matrix or Part Matrix → Value 1 = the matrix → quantity, adjustments, cuts
and welds as for a part (profiles) → Save. - Build one item per answer and check that the right part appears.
series and sub-routine, uses the new cell values. An empty cell returns no part.
Profile Matrix or Part Matrix?
The example data uses Profile Matrix rules (with a Profile Matrix type matrix) for profiles cut to length
— the frame head (357 rule 55) and beads (465 rule 38) — and a Part Matrix rule (with a Part
Matrix type matrix) for hardware: 357 rule 247 “RH CAM”. Follow the same split.
When the wrong part comes out
- Check the item’s answer for the matrix’s axis option (for 97: COLOUR).
- Open the matrix and read the cell for that answer: it must be the part id you expect.
- Painted parts with a wildcard stock code (such as
3M1PI-*@) get their colour from a Set Wild
rule in the series (3501 rules 144 and 145). If the colour part is wrong, check that rule and that the coloured part
exists. - Check the rule’s own tests: rule 55 only runs for the listed opening styles and for SERIES = 3501.
Price or cost from a matrix
Quantity and size adjustments can also come from a matrix: set Quantity Type, Width Adjust Type or
Height Adjust Type to Matrix and pick the matrix in the field next to it. The matrix is built on the
same screen. No verified example of this is given here; build a test item and check the result.
