Profiles are added with a Part rule (always the same profile) or a Profile Matrix rule
(profile picked from a matrix, for example by colour). On top of the part, a profile rule says which side it goes on,
how the ends are cut, whether they are welded and how much longer or shorter than the side it is cut. Profile rules
change the drawing, so Affects Design is ticked.

Example 1 — frame head picked by colour

To put the inswing main frame on top of a 3501 frame, the rule puts profile matrix 9411 IN Main Frame
(white or painted, by colour) on the frame top, at All Frame, when the item is a 3501 and one of a list of opening
styles. Ends are mitred and welded.

Field 3501.FRAME (357), rule 55
Level / Position / Condition All Frame / Top / None
Rule Type / Value 1 Profile Matrix / matrix 97 “9411 IN Main Frame”
(White → 3M1PI-WH, other colours → 3M1PI-*@ painted)
Left/Top / Right/Bottom Mitered \../ both ends
Welded L/T / Welded R/B on / on

Tests UD Opening in a list of opening-style ids AND Shape/M Option SERIES = 3501

Rule 59 does the left side: Left/Top Mitered, Right/Bottom Machined [..], welded only at the left/top end. How the
matrix is built: How to choose a part or a price with a matrix.

Example 2 — glazing bead cut a little longer

To bead a 20 mm white unit in a 3500, the rule puts white feature bead 19663000-WH on the top and bottom of
the glass, at All Glazing Beads, when the unit is 20 mm and the outside colour is White. Each piece is cut 4/64″
(1.00 mm) longer than the side.

Field 3500 PW GB (465), rule 48
Level / Position All Glazing Beads / Top + Bottom
Rule Type / Value 1 Part / 19663000-WH (part 1542)
Width Adjust Type Value: M 100 (= +1.00 mm), I 4 (= +4/64″)
Height Adjust Type 0
Left/Top / Right/Bottom Mitered both ends, not welded

Tests Shape/M Option QSU OA THICK = 20 mm AND Shape/M Option COLOUR OUT = White

Rule 49 is the same for Left + Right. Rules 50 and 51 are the painted bead (19663000-*) with the colour test
ticked Is Not White.

Steps

  1. Rules tab → New (or Insert under the right station rule).
  2. Level: the member — All Frame, a sash node, the mullion under the right parent, All Glazing Beads…
  3. Rule Type: Part for one fixed profile, Profile Matrix when the profile depends on an answer
    (build the matrix first).
  4. Position: Top, Bottom, Left, Right, or Top + Bottom / Left + Right / All Sides to cover several sides with
    one rule.
  5. Value 1: the profile or the matrix.
  6. Cut length: Width Adjust Type changes Top/Bottom pieces, Height Adjust Type changes Left/Right
pieces. With Value, fill both boxes: M in mm×100 and I in 64ths. Positive = longer.
  7. Cut & Weld panel: Left/Top and Right/Bottom end cut (Mitered, Straight, Machined),
Welded L/T, Welded R/B; if needed Split Profile, Split At Feature, Weld Split,
Mortise (with Machined ends), Auto L/T / Auto R/B.
  8. Tick Affects Design. Optionally Draw cross-section.
  9. Add tests if it depends on colour, glass or opening style → Save → build an item and check cut
    lengths in the BOM.
Not in the new Rules tabMirrored, Reversed, Feed and the
L/T and R/B end adjustments are stored on some rules (3501.FRAME rule 59 has them) but cannot be set in the new
Rules tab. A rule made with Insert or Copy keeps them from the rule it was copied from.
