A cost group and a price group are rounding and markup rules shared by many parts: how
a length is rounded up before it is costed, the smallest area you charge, how a price is rounded, which customer
line discounts apply. Every part, option choice and glass type picks one of each, so make them before you add parts.

Before you start

  • Nothing else is needed. Groups do not point at anything.
  • Decide how many groups you need. Most companies start with a few: one for profiles (length rounding), one for
glass (area rounding and minimum area), one for hardware and units (no rounding).

Steps: cost groups

  1. Open Administration and Setup → OJ Setup → PRODUCT SETUP → Cost Groups.
  2. Click New. Type the Description (required and unique; it is the name you will see in every Cost
    Group combo).
  3. Set Length rounding (in) and Length rounding (mm) for profiles (0 = none),
Area rounding and Min area for parts costed by area. Glass minimums are set on the glass type, not here.
  4. Save. Repeat for each group.

Steps: price groups

  1. Open OJ Setup → PRODUCT SETUP → Price Groups.
  2. Click New, type the Description (required and unique).
  3. Pick the Price category: it decides which customer line discounts apply to parts in this group. Tick
Discountable if shipping and service charges in this group should take the customer discount.
  4. Set the rounding and markups you need, then Save. Repeat for each group.

An example starting set

Group Typical settings (example only) Used by
Profiles Length rounding to the next inch or next 10 mm; no area rounding Frame, sash,
mullion and bead profiles costed by length
Glass Area rounding Up to whole; minimum area set on each glass type Glass sheets and
glass types
Hardware and units No rounding Handles, screws, labour, anything costed each
Panels and sheet Area rounding Up to whole, a Min area Infill panels and
other parts costed by area

The values above are only an example: use the rounding your suppliers charge you and the rounding you charge
your customers. Use the same names for the cost group and the matching price group so people pick the right pair. You can add
groups later; a group still used by parts or other records cannot be deleted.

When a change takes effectGroups are loaded when a user logs in.
After you change a group, users who are already logged in see it after they log out and back in. Order lines already
priced keep their price until they are recalculated.
The part’s own group is the one that countsPart families also have
a cost group and a price group, but item pricing uses the group on the part itself. Set the group on each part
(Add parts and profiles).

Check it worked

  • Open OJ Setup → PRODUCT SETUP → Parts, click New: your groups are listed in the
Cost Group and Price Group combos (log out and back in first if they are not).
  • Click Cancel to leave the new part unsaved.
