How Can We Help?
An option is a question a product asks when it is configured (“Colour”, “Hardware”,
“Grid Type”). Its choices (answers) are what the user can pick (“White”, “Black”). Each choice can carry a
stock code, a price and a cost, and can send work to a production line and station. Options are made once and then
offered in a series by a rule.
Before you start
- Parts exist for choices that add a part (Add parts and profiles).
- Price groups and cost groups exist (Set up cost groups and price groups).
- Lines and stations exist for choices produced in-house; suppliers exist for choices sent out
(lines and stations,
suppliers). - A matrix is not needed yet. You add it after the matrix is built.
Steps: create an option
- Open Administration and Setup → OJ Setup → PRODUCT SETUP → Options.
- Click New (+) in the top button row. Type the Description (required).
- Pick the Type. Answer is the usual one (the user picks from the choices); Color is the same
with colour meaning. Quantity, Size, Depth, Text and +/- Adjust have no choices: the user types a value. - Tick Forced if an answer is required. Tick Install option or Performance option only for
those special options. Save.
Steps: add choices
- Select the option, then click New (+) under the Option Choices table.
- Stock Code: the part this choice adds, if any.
- Identity: Abbreviation (up to 5 characters) and Description (required).
- Format & Pricing: Format (how it is priced: Unit, Length, Area…), Price,
Price Group, Min Price. Leave Matrix Pricing off for now. - Cost: Cost, Cost Group, and Thickness where it matters.
- Processing: Process = None, External (pick the Supplier) or
Internal (pick Prod Line, then Station). - Save. To add a similar choice, select one and click Copy; it is copied at once, then edit it.
asks: interior and exterior colour, glass, grids, hardware, screen. Use the same option on every series that asks the
same question; each series offers it with its own rule, and can limit which choices are allowed.
0. Deleting an option is not blocked even when rules use it; check first. The option does nothing in a product until
a rule offers it in a series (an Option Choice rule).
Come back after the matrix
If a choice is priced by size or by another answer, build the matrix
(Create a price matrix), then edit the choice, tick Matrix Pricing and pick
the Matrix. Unticking Matrix Pricing later goes back to the flat Price.
Check it worked
- The option shows in the list with its choices, each with the Answer ID it was given.
- After the series rules exist, a test item in the series asks the question and offers the choices; the chosen
part appears in the bill of materials and the price changes as expected.
