A glass type (also called a sealed-unit or SU type) describes one glass make-up: its panes,
spacers, gas, film, thickness, cost and price. The designer offers these types when a user picks glass, and rules and
rule tests read them. OpenJanela 6.5 has no OJ Setup screen to create or change the glass type list. New
glass types are added by your OpenJanela administrator. This section says what to prepare and what you can set
yourself.

Before you start

Steps

  1. For each glass type you sell, write down: the name users will see, the panes in order (the glass part of each
pane), the spacer part and gas between each pair of panes, any film, the overall thickness, the cost group and price
group, the supplier, the production line, and any price or cost matrix.
  2. Send the list to your OpenJanela administrator or support and ask them to add the glass types to your company’s
    database.
  3. On each series, open OJ Setup → PRODUCT SETUP → Series → Glazing Thickness tab and
Add Range for every sealed-unit thickness the series can glaze (From, To and Panes are required). These
ranges are also what a build-to-suit sealed unit lets the user choose from.
  4. Tell the series which glass to use with rules (glazing and sealed-unit setter rules) on the Rules tab; see
Add rules to a series and
    Family Card: Setter Rules.

Making a one-off sealed unit on an item

In the item designer’s glass panel, the Edit Customizable Sealed Unit button opens the Glass & SU
dialog (Header Details, Sealed Unit Composition, Costing & Pricing). Saving it creates a custom copy of the
selected glass type for that item. It does not change the standard glass type. The button works only for users who
have the right to customize sealed-unit types; others get “Insufficient privileges to perform this action”.

Not confirmedWhere the standard glass type list is maintained
today (a database tool, a script or an older setup program) could not be confirmed from the OpenJanela screens. If
your company needs to change glass types often, ask your administrator how they do it for you.

Check it worked

  • Start a test item in the series, open the glass panel and pick glass: the new types are offered, with the
    thickness you expected.
  • The item’s bill of materials lists the glass, spacer and gas parts you gave, at a non-zero cost.
  • Rule tests on sealed-unit thickness (for example glazing bead rules) pick the right parts for the new
    thickness.
