How Can We Help?
A job type says what kind of work an order is (supply only, supply and install, a service
call) and carries its defaults: installation, taxable shipping and installation, and a default warranty. A
warranty says how many days each group of parts is covered. Make the warranty first, because a job type points
at it; map part families to warranty groups later, once the families exist.
Before you start
- Nothing else is needed for the warranty header and the job types.
- Part families are needed only for the last warranty step (Family → Group). You can do that after
Add suppliers and part families.
Steps: warranty
- Open Administration and Setup → OJ Setup → PRODUCT SETUP → Warranties.
- In the Warranties pane click New, type the Description the customer sees, choose
Standard or Extended, tick Active, Save. - In Warranty Groups click New, type a group name (for example Glass, Hardware, Frame) and its
number of Days. Typing a new name creates the group. Set the Effective date. Save, and repeat for
each group. - Later, after part families exist: in Family → Group map every part family to a group. A family with
no row here shows as Unmapped part on service tickets. Add Part exceptions only for single parts
that differ from their family.
Steps: job types
- Open OJ Setup → PRODUCT SETUP → Job Types and click New.
- Description (required), Seq (order in lists), Reference (short code).
- Tick Requires installation and/or Requires measure for work you schedule crews for; tick
Tax installation and Tax shipping if those charges are taxable for this kind of job. - Pick the Default warranty. For service calls tick Service job, and mark the one
Chargeable service type. - Save. Most companies need at least Supply Only, Supply & Install and Service.
What a job type changes on an order
| Setting | Effect |
|---|---|
| Requires installation | The order is flagged for installation scheduling and gets installation start and end dates. |
| Requires measure | The order is flagged for measure scheduling. |
| Tax installation, Tax shipping | Whether those charges are taxed on orders of this type. |
| Default warranty | The warranty a new order of this type gets. |
| Service job, Chargeable service | Mark service calls, and the one service type the customer pays for. |
A customer carries a default job type that every new quote copies, and a tax code can be limited to one job type.
A job type still used by orders or customers cannot be deleted.
Changing cover laterEditing a warranty group’s Days changes the
cover of every order already sold under that warranty. To change cover from now on, make a new warranty with a later
effective date and use it on new orders.

Check it worked
- The Job Types list shows your types in the Seq order you gave.
- On a customer form (More pane) the Job Type combo lists them.
- After the families exist: every family appears in the warranty’s Family → Group list.
